I love the sun. I love the summertime. I can't believe that September is upon us. Soon the days will be shorter and evening will come earlier. I'm not really looking forward to that! However, I am looking forward to the cooler weather.
We're going to be talking about fall makeup trends this Thursday but I want to bring attention to something we should be concerned with all the time...skin care!
I had to go to the dermatologist last week for a regular checkup. Normally, I would not be concerned to go to the dermatologist but I was this time. I was concerned about a freckle that appeared to be getting bigger. Everyone knows that I have fair skin. In high school, I didn't tan that much unless I had a special event coming up and I tried to remember my sunscreen when I knew I was going to be outside for an extended period of time. Still, I'm not perfect when it comes to applying the beloved SPF. I didn't know what to expect when I walked into her office but after measuring the freckle, she told me that we were going to watch it. That gave me some relief, but it also made me more aware of the importance of protecting my skin from the sun's rays. Some people live in the tanning bed or spend prolonged hours in the sun. It's easy to see why! The sun's rays can be extremely relaxing on a lazy summer day. Still, the amount of damage UV rays can do to your skin is worth the extra time to put on the sunscreen.
I was fortunate this time but there are so many women, young and old, who are dealing with skin cancer. I think they would tell you the same thing--apply the sunscreen.
